Campaign Findings
The Reno-Sparks Heat mapping project team is thrilled to announce the successful completion of our community’s temperature mapping campaign and the release of the campaign’s data and modeled temperature maps! This mapping effort was conducted by more than 100 volunteers from the local community who came together from over a dozen local and Tribal governmental organizations and community groups.

Heat is our state’s and our nation’s most deadly weather-related hazard, with at least 491 deaths attributed to heat in Nevada in 2024. 2024 was the hottest year on record, following the previous record set in 2023. The last ten years are likely the hottest in the last 125,000 years, scientists say.
